Palazzo Nuovo
This palace was designed in 1593 by Vannone to replace a fourteenth century
loggia, and redesigned in 1611 by Vincenzo Scamozzi. The façade was
only completed in 1927-28 by Ernesto Pirovano keeping to the original Scamozzi
design. From 1648 to 1873 it was the seat of the Town hall. It houses many
frescoes by Pietro Baschenis and important sculptures and busts. It is currently
the public library, founded in 1764 with a donation from Cardinal Alessandro
Furietti and is important for its antique printed documents and manuscripts.
